Mount Stromlo Observatory LIMITED EDITION PRINTS

Many People will know local artist Kim Nelson.  Kim painted an image of Cooma Cottage, a NSW National Trust Property near Yass, and released it for a limited edition print.

The National Trust (ACT) contacted Kim to paint an image of Mount Stromlo Observatory, which was destroyed by the bushfires in January 2003, which we could organize a limited number of prints to use as a fundraiser.  The original plans, held by the National Trust ACT, were made available but we did not have very many photographs. Because most of the photographs were destroyed in the fire the only ones available were a couple of black and white photos from their web site.  For colour reference he took samples of what was left of the structure, such as roof tiles etc from the burnt out remains.

The final image of Mount Stromlo is a montage of the Administration Building set against a background of the Tarantula Nebula as seen from Mount Stromlo.
